* The East London Magistrates’ Court has postponed to June 10 the fraud case of former agriculture Minister Max Mamase and his wife, Housing and Local Government Minister Neo Moerane-Mamase. The two are charged with fraud relating to accepting kickbacks in the form of two bond payments towards their R2.7m mansion in East London. – The Herald

* Eastern Cape MEC for Local Government, Housing and Traditional Affairs, Neo Moerane-Mamase, has resigned, according to Premier Nosimo Balindlela, who said the resignation came after a meeting concerning a fraud and corruption case that was pending against the MEC. – SABC News * Anisa Sukan’s common-law husband, Wassim Haider Agha, and his former driver/bodyguard, Bonginkosi David Ndlovu, will be in the dock of the Scottburgh High Court today, charged with conspiracy to commit murder, three counts of murder and one of robbery. The charges also relate to the execution-style killing of Anisa and Agha’s daughter, Zil, and Anisa’s father, Anand, at the Sukan family home in Reservoir Hills. – The Mercury * The National Union of Mineworkers said last night that it would seek a court interdict to avert the retrenchment of 4 900 workers at Harmony mines in Free State. – Business Day * An Iranian court sentenced a dentist to 99 lashes and nearly 10 years in jail for raping at least 60 patients, many of them sedated, whom he then blackmailed into silence by showing them film of what had happened, media reported yesterday. – The Mercury
