'False prophet’ jailed for sodomy

A self-styled Zimbabwean prophet has been sentenced to 18 years in jail for sodomising a follower. Buhera resident Maxwell Charamba, who denied the charges before magistrate Livingstone Chipadza, said: ‘I was overpowered by the devil and could not control myself.’ New Zimbabwe reports that Charamba, whom Chipadza described as a ‘false prophet’, will serve an effective 15-year jail term after the court suspended three years. The court was told that Charamba visited the complainant’s home on 28 July and arranged a healing session at a nearby river.
