A Zimbabwean opposition MP and two activists who say they were abducted and tortured last month have been denied bail after being charged with lying to the police. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova said they were removed from a police station by unknown men and were assaulted. BBC News reports that rights groups have described the case as the latest example of political oppression in Zimbabwe.
