President George Weah has submitted a revised edition of the Public Health Law of Liberia to be passed in the House of Representatives. A report on the allAfrica site notes that Weah has argued that the current legislation which was adopted in 1976 ‘does not reflect current day health realities’ and fails to address new and emerging public health challenges such as ‘emergency treatment, discrimination, mental health, nutrition, reproductive health rights and regulation of marketing of products for infants and young children’. In addition, it does not cover zoonotic diseases, non-communicable disease, antimicrobial resistance, clinical trials and complementary and alternative medicines.
