US universities lose case against military

The US Supreme Court has ruled against universities that had barred military recruiters on campus, upholding a 1996 federal law that permitted the government to withhold funds from universities that deny recruiters the same access to students that is allowed other potential employers.
The Washington Times reports several universities had banned military recruiters to protest the Pentagon\'s policy against open homos exuality in the armed forces. The court rejected the argument by a coalition of law schools and professors that their First Amendment right of free expression was violated by the law on grounds that it forced them to associate with and promote the activities of military recruiters.
