Tobacco giants to fight plan to publicise recipes

Tobacco giant Gallaher, which produces Benson & Hedges and Silk Cut, is planning to fight the Dutch Government in court over its plans to force cigarette companies to publicise the secret recipes for their products.

The Telegraph reports the company is teaming up with its rival, Philip Morris, to oppose the Dutch plans. Gallaher CE Nigel Northridge said that asking tobacco companies to do this was akin to asking Coca-Cola to post its closely guarded formula on its Web site. ‘These are highly prized possessions,’ he said.
