Three deals give platinum sector a lift

Three platinum sector BEE deals were announced yesterday following signs that platinum companies complying with legislation on empowerment are finally being granted licences to mine, says a Business Day report.

London-based African Platinum, which plans to start constructing a platinum mine at Leeuwkop next year, said it had concluded a revised agreement with the Bakwena ba Mogopa traditional community on whose land Leeuwkop was situated. Aquarius Platinum said it had entered into an agreement with Bakgaga Mining, which holds two new-order prospecting rights west of Anglo Platinum’s Lebowa Platinum Mine in the eastern limb of the bushveld complex. And Dellmann-Haniel SA, the local subsidiary of Germany’s Dellman-Haniel International Mining and Tunnelling, said Siyakhula Sonke Empowerment Corporation would take 26% of its shares.
