ID leader Patricia de Lille has called for the prosecution of 31 South Africans, including former ANC Chief Whip Tony Yengeni, who allegedly received discounts on cars from a company involved in the arms deal, notes the Pretoria News.
She said she had discovered during her recent visit to Germany that the officials, ranging from politicians to public servants and MPs, had received highly discounted vehicles from the German company, Daimler Chrysler Aerospace, which benefited from the multimillion rand arms deal. De Lille said the company had pleaded guilty in Germany in 2001 to bribery, which related to the cars given to top SA public officials in a bid to buy their influence in the arms procurement processes. De Lille said she was still trying to get the names of the 31 people.

But The Citizen claims to have given De Lille a list of the recipients of the 33 luxury cars. It says the biggest discount was given Yengeni who got 47% off his luxury 4x4. But many also got discounts of up to 30%. Not all recipients have been identified, as the internal DaimlerChrysler list reflects only surnames. Four of the cars have former European Aeronautics, Defence and Space Company director Michael Woerfels name recorded against them.
