Ahead to the Budget presentation yesterday, President Jacob Zuma announced salary increases for public office-bearers. He based his decision on the recommendation of the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers 'and the condition of the economic climate‚ which has deteriorated'‚ the Presidency said, according to a TimesLIVE report. Among the listed increases are: 5.5% from the position of the Special Grade Chief Magistrate to the position of the Chief Magistrate and 6% for all other magistrates. Magistrates currently earn at least R788 000 a year, says the report. The Chief Justice as well as Constitutional Court justices and SCA judges will get 5% more, while the Judge Presidents and judges of the High Court/Labour Courts will benefit from a 5.5 % increase. Members of the executive and Deputy Ministers, MPs, Premiers‚ MECs and Members of the Provincial Legislatures will all get 5%.
