Qatar Airways will acquire a 25% stake in Airlink, Southern Africa’s largest independent passenger airline by fleet and flights, pending regulatory approval. The equity deal was officially confirmed at a meeting between airline officials at the Hyatt Regency Oryx hotel in Doha last week. Fin24 reports that Qatar Airways group CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer did not disclose the monetary figure of the deal in response to questions. He said the deal was part of Qatar Airways' plan to expand its presence in Africa and Airlink would help Qatar Airways reach regions it doesn't currently operate in. Airlink CEO Rodger Foster said that the deal was a ‘vote of confidence’ in Airlink's business model and the quality of its operations. Qatar Airways, which is owned by the Qatari Government, was identified as the best airline in the world by Skytrax for 2024.
