* Truman Prince, the Central Karoo District Municipality manager, appeared in the Beaufort West Magistrates Court yesterday on charges of assault, crimen injuria, theft, intimidation and riotous behaviour. He was not asked to plead and the case was postponed to August 9. SABC News
* Shareholders of the Juta Group, the 150-year-old legal publishing company, had overwhelmingly endorsed a black economic empowerment transaction worth R25m that would give the firm an effective 25.6% black shareholding, Ishmet Davidson, the financial director, said yesterday. Under the deal all Juta staff would be granted shares, and Imfundo Investments, which consists of three non-executive directors, would take up a 25% stake in the company. Business Report * Three foreign nationals, accused of kidnapping the daughter of the DRC\'s Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication, have appeared briefly in the Pretoria Regional Court. The trio will remain in custody until their next appearance on July 11. SABC News * The Pretoria Regional Court has sentenced SARS employee Kadima Mulenga to an effective five years in prison for defrauding the service of R700 000 by registering 64 bogus taxpayers and 13 bank accounts. Mulenga, a Congolese refugee who worked in the IT department and was part of a fraud syndicate, submitted tax returns and fake IRP5 forms until his arrest in May 2004.
