Two Free State police officers are claiming more than R600 000 from the Minister of Safety and Security for alleged unfair prosecution.
According to a Beeld report, Fires Jansen van Vuuren, former commander of the vehicle theft unit, and Johan Jagga, of the same unit, claim to have been arrested without a warrant and held unlawfully in police cells. They level several allegations against police officers of Ladybrand in court papers filed in the Free State High Court. Corruption charges against them had all been dropped and they were found not guilty by a disciplinary committee that had reinstated them. Judge S Ebrahim postponed the case indefinitely.
