Five of the seven men charged with sex crimes on Pitcairn Island have been found guilty, including the island\'s mayor, Steve Christian.

A sixth man – Dennis Christian – was convicted of one indecent assault and two sexual assaults after he pleaded guilty during his trial, reports The Australian. Christian was found guilty of five counts of rape against island girls as young as 12. His son Randy Christian was found guilty of four rapes and four indecent assaults. Sentences are expected to be announced this week. But even if the men are sentenced to prison in the island\'s newly built cell block, the convicted men will continue to roam free pending the outcome of an appeal by defence lawyers against Britain\'s jurisdiction over the tiny island. That case is expected to be heard next year in New Zealand. Full report in The Australian
