The Judicial Service Commission says it may deal with complaints against Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe as early as next month now that Oasis Group Holdings has dropped its R250 000 defamation case against Cape High Court Judge Siraj Desai.

A report in The Mercury says the case could have dragged on for years and the JSC, as promised, would have waited until the matter was concluded. JSC spokesperson Marumo Moerane said: ‘We made a decision to look at the matter after the Oasis case had concluded, but it (Oasis dropping its defamation suit) has taken us by surprise. Nobody has given it any thought that this would happen.’ Full report in The Mercury (subscription needed)
