No exemption for property holding companies and other brief reports

* Trade and Industry Minister Mandisi Mphalwa said in Parliament yesterday he would not consider exempting property holding companies, such as share blocks companies, from the Company Act requirement to pay annual fees of R4 000 as this would be unfair. – Business Day

* The appeal against the prohibition by the Competition Commission of the proposed sale of the government’s Komatiland forestry asset to the Conheur Consortium, the preferred bidder, is set to be heard by the Competition Tribunal over more than two weeks towards the end of the year. – Business Report * Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture official Mzwandile Sikeni (42) has appeared in a Mount Frere court for allegedly conspiring to kill a Umhlobo Wenene FM presenter for failing to air his department’s media releases. – The Herald * A 54-year-old pastor has appeared briefly in a Port Elizabeth Magistrates’ Court where a bail application was heard. The pastor is facing a string of charges, including rape, incest, indecent assault, production and distribution of child pornography, distribution of pornographic material to minors and dealing in drugs. The matter was postponed to July 11 for further evidence. – The Herald
