The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the promotion of airman Bashir Umar who returned €37 000 found in a parcel at the Aminu Kano International Airport recently. Umar, who is a member of the NAF’s Mobile Air Defence Team deployed at the airport for security duties, found the parcel during a routine patrol. The Premium Times reports that it was returned to its owner. Speaking at a special event organised to honour the airman – who was flown to NAF headquarters in Abuja – chief of air staff Sadique Abubakar said he displayed ‘an uncommon act of integrity’ by returning the money. ‘We hold Umar in high esteem in the Nigerian Air Force,’ he said. He was promoted to the rank of corporal.
