New Home Affairs strategy launched

Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has officially launched a turnaround strategy for her corruption and problem-plagued department.

The plan was launched during her Budget vote debate in the National Assembly last week. The strategy, Mapisa-Nqakula said, will among other things, see the department\'s information and technology systems beefed up to the tune of R3bn, a smart Identity Card launched, and a track and trace system put in place, according to a report on the IoL site. The department has already set up a 27-member task team comprising of both public and private sector experts, to assist in the implementation of the turnaround strategy. The DA has dismissed the initiative as ‘ridiculous’, however. Sandy Kalyan said it did not make sense for the department to bring in external people to do work on behalf of its own managers. ‘If managers can\'t do their jobs fire them.’ Full report on IoL site
