Namport secures Walvis Bay container contract

The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) has officially handed over the operations of the new container terminal at the Port of Walvis Bay to Terminal Investment Namibia (TiN). This is effective from 1 October. The Namibian reports that the handover marks the beginning of a 25-year concession. ‘The concession allows us to attract private capital to invest in crucial upgrades, including dredging the entrance channel and acquiring new equipment,’ said Namport CEO Andrew Kanime. He said the partnership would ensure Namport stays competitive and contribute to Namibia’s vision of becoming a logistics hub. The terminal, commissioned in 2019, has a capacity of 750 000 containers annually. ‘TiN is committed to bringing innovative practices and advanced operational standards to Namibia,’ said TiN CEO Alexander Reali.
