Minister facing court action over ongoing PO saga

In the latest turn in the Post Office saga, CE Kutso Mampeule is taking Communications Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri to the Pretoria High Court on Friday in a bid to force her to release the report into governance problems at the PO and to interdict her from firing him.

According to a Business Day report, Matsepe-Casaburri said last month she ‘intended to remove’ Mampeule as she had ‘lost confidence’ in him and called a shareholders’ meeting on April 23 to do so. But as she represents government, the only shareholders, it seems inevitable Mampeule will be sacked. However, suggests the report, his lawsuit ratchets up the stakes dramatically as Matsepe-Casaburri appointed him in the first place and his legal challenge is the first against a Minister from an incumbent CE. It says Matsepe-Casaburri is likely to defend this vigorously as she said last week she was considering not releasing her report at all, given the potential for those fingered in it to mount lawsuits against her.
