After spending almost four years in custody awaiting trial, Trent Gore Fraser, of Johannesburg, pleaded guilty in the Durban High Court to charges of racketeering, dealing in dagga and money-laundering and was sentenced to an effective nine years in prison.
A report in The Mercury notes that while Judge Achmat Jappie handed down a sentence totalling 86 years in jail, the effect of suspensions and orders that some of the sentences run concurrently means that Fraser will serve nine years. Full report in The Mercury (subscription needed)
