* Clifford Norval (22) appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court yesterday on a charge of stabbing a 52-year-old sex worker, Ellenore Leander, to death with a dagger on April 1. Norval is to apply for bail again on April 19. – Cape Argus

* A Spanish judge has charged 29 people over the 2004 Madrid train bombings following a two-year investigation. The March 11 attacks, for which Islamist militants claimed responsibility, killed 191 people and injured more than 1 700. Six of the 29 men were charged with 191 counts of murder and 1 755 counts of attempted murder. – The Guardian * The Financial Services Authority in London has fined Deutsche Bank more than £6.3m for market misconduct involving two separate transactions in March 2004. The first transaction was a book build in Scania B shares, while the second involved Cytos Biotechnology shares.– The Independent
