EFF leader Julius Malema’s case for allegedly discharging a rifle in public will be postponed to 16 July, according to a statement released by the NPA last night. A City Press report notes the case against Malema, and his co-accused Adriaan Snyman, was meant to be heard at the East London Magistrate's Court today. Anelisa Ngcakani, regional spokesperson for the NPA in the Eastern Cape, said the matter would be postponed due to level four lockdown regulations which prohibit interprovincial travelling, except for essential services. Malema and Snyman reside outside of the Eastern Cape. Malema faces five counts, including the unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area or public place and reckless endangerment to people or property. This is in relation to Malema allegedly discharging a rifle in 2018 during the EFF’s birthday celebrations at Sisa Dukashe Stadium, in Mdantsane outside East London. Malema and Snyman were issued with warrants of arrest in February after they failed to appear at the East London Magistrate’s Court and the matter was postponed to 8 May (today).
