A luxury cruise company, which owes more than R2m in deposits to people who had bought holiday packages, has been placed under final liquidation in the Cape High Court.

Former senior Western Cape government official Sam Dodgen was a director of the company. According to papers, Royal African Cruises, advertised holiday packages and received deposits from would-be holidaymakers to the value of R2.174m. Dodgen and a second director, Antonie van der Merwe, have since been arrested for fraud, after accepting money for the cruise packages.
