Former Lagos socialite Fred Ajudua, who is facing $5.9m fraud charges, has been denied bail by Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye in the High Court.

The Tribune reports that Ajudua was charged on 14 counts in March by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Defence lawyer Olalekan Ojo said there is overwhelming medical evidence that his client is suffering from kidney failure. The report notes that in rejecting the application, Ipaye said the risk of the suspect not returning to court was 'very high'. The trial will begin on 30 June. Full report in The Tribune
