The father of the 10-year-old boy who was kidnapped in Ennerdale yesterday morning is a State witness in a multimillion-rand Cape Town hijacking case who is about to testify against 11 former accomplices, says a report in The Mercury.

This was confirmed yesterday by Advocate William Booth, the lawyer for two brothers, Selwyn and Virgil de Vries, who are suspected of being the masterminds behind the R2.2m truck hijackings that were carried out between June and October 2003. Liam Aspeling was snatched from a car by two men outside his home at 7.20am yesterday as he was being picked up to be taken to school.
