An attorney claims the continuing cases of vigilantism in Cape Town and other areas have led to the failure of the administration of justice, says a report on The New Age site.
Eastern Cape attorney Sizwe Madikizela - a candidate for the position of Deputy Public Protector - told MPs that growing incidents of mob justice in the country showed that there was a failure in the system, according to the report. It notes Madikizela told the Justice Portfolio Committee that the country should deal with the growing cases of mob justice. Another candidate, Motlatjo Ralefatane, was asked about the business of the Road Accident Fund (RAF), where she serves as a non-executive director. Committee chair Luwellyn Landers said the RAF appears to be doing a disservice by speedily paying out R500m to a Swiss road accident victim four years ago - while thousands of ordinary people still wait for payment. However, states the report, Ralefatane said the fund was getting its house in order and has started to expedite payments to road accident victims. Full report on The New Age site
