Judge appears on drunk driving charge

A prosecutor told the Johannesburg Magistrates\' Court on Friday that Pretoria High Court Judge Nkola Motata had high levels of alcohol in his blood at the time of his accident in Hurlingham.

Anna-Marie Morton said forensic results of Motata\'s blood test showed high levels of alcohol intake, according to a report on the News24 site. Magistrate Desmond Nair postponed the case to May 18 for further investigation. Motata was arrested on a drunken driving charge on January 5 after crashing his car into a wall. Morton, who wanted the case to be postponed, said the DPP was investigating the drunken driving matter. Earlier, Motata\'s advocate, Yusuf Dockrat, said the case against Motata should be struck off the roll as the forensic tests had taken too long. \'The case has received a lot of public attention that was taking a toll on Motata,\' said Dockrat. \'His reputation is being tarnished on a daily basis.\' Full report on News24 site
