The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) will consider re-opening the probe into possible conflict of interest involving Cape Judge President John Hlophe when it convenes in April, according to a report in The Mercury.
Judge Hlophe made headlines last week when papers before the Cape High Court suggested he was paid almost R500 000 by a company that is suing Judge Siraj Desai for defamation. Hlophe granted the company consent to sue Desai, as a High Court judge cannot be sued without the consent of the regional Judge President. JSC spokesperson Milton Seligson SC said he could not anticipate how the JSC would react to the recent developments involving Hlophe. Full report in The Mercury (subscription needed)
