Japanese Bill will allow card theft victims to be compensated

Japan’s banks will have to amend their business rules in line with a Bill that aims to offer compensation to victims of bank-card crimes.

The Japan Times reports a Bill has been submitted to the Diet. It will require financial institutions to compensate depositors for funds stolen through bank card forgeries and thefts. The coalition\'s move comes amid mounting criticism over banks\' failure to respond swiftly to such crimes, as well as the financial institutions\' opaque position on compensation obligations.
