Italian aid worker released in Somalia

Italian aid worker Sylvia Romano, who was abducted in Kenya in November 2018, has been released. Romano was greeted by her parents and Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte when she arrived in Rome yesterday. BBC News reports that she was freed from suspected Islamist group al-Shabab near Mogadishu on Saturday. Italy's secret service was assisted by Turkey and Somalia in securing her release. Legalbrief reports that Romano had been working as a student volunteer at the Africa Milele Onlus non-profit when she was abducted.
