Hlophe misses JSC deadline again

Publish date: 11 July 2007

For the second time, Cape Judge President John Hlophe has failed to meet a deadline to answer questions about his controversial relationship with the investment group Oasis.

The Cape Times says it has reliably learned that Hlophe failed to answer questions put to him by the Judicial Services Commission (JSC). The questions will now be put to him for a third time. Earlier this week commission spokesperson Milton Seligson said he had not been informed either way by the body. The JSC is the only body that may recommend the impeachment of a judge. Should it decide to follow this course of action, it would be the first time in SA history. \'If the Judge President did not meet the deadline set by the JSC, then he should be made to account for the disrespect he is showing the commission,\' says DA spokesperson Tertius Delport.
