Hewitt has shown no remorse, says advocate

Bob Hewitt (75) has shown no remorse and therefore deserves direct imprisonment, State Advocate Carina Coetzee says in her heads of argument in Hewitt's appeal in the Supreme Court of Appeal against his sentence, notes a Volksblad report. The former tennis star was sentenced to six years' imprisonment for raping young girls. Another two-year sentence was suspended on condition he pays R100 000 to the Department of Justice for campaigns against rape. Coetzee argues that Hewitt’s health may not be good, but it has not interfered with his ability to run a profitable citrus farm in the Eastern Cape. He will, in any event, be entitled to medical care in prison, the state argues. The appeal is enrolled for tomorrow (Tuesday).
