A parliamentary disciplinary committee has recommended that political parties should fire their convicted Travelgate MPs, according to a report in The Mercury.
It says the recommendation that the strongest possible action be taken against the MPs will be submitted to National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete. If she agrees with the finding, Mbete would have to forward it to the political parties concerned to do the actual firing. Parliament itself does not have the power to fire MPs, given that they serve at the behest of their parties in terms of the countrys proportional representation electoral system.
