A Kenyan man accused of practising law without qualifications has said he was innocent and has thanked his supporters. Court officials urged police to arrest a man practising under the name ‘Brian Mwenda’. BBC News reports that they said the man was a ‘masquerader’ who had stolen the identity of a real lawyer, named Brian Mwenda Ntwiga. Local media reported that he won numerous lawsuits despite not being trained. Despite condemnation by the Law Society of Kenya and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the alleged imposter has been praised by Kenya's Central Organisation of Trade Unions as a ‘brilliant young mind’ DPP Renson Ingonga said he has directed the Inspector General of the National Police Service to undertake ‘expedited comprehensive investigations’.
