* While blogs are growing in number and audience size, business-style blogs have lagged. According to results of an eMarketer survey, just 4% of ‘major’ US companies have publicly available blogs. Full CNET News report

* Australia’s domain name authority Auda has recently released around 20 000 previously embargoed geographic domain names to the public. The names, which include bondi.com.au, perth.com.au and alicesprings.com.au, are available for purchase through a ballot system for A$825 each. Full Sydney Morning Herald report * Microsoft has made a big jump into the VoIP market with the announcement of three separate deals with AT&T, Amdocs and Sylantro. The company’s aim is to provide VoIP providers with the tools and services needed to produce new integrated products. Full TechWorld report * Australia’s Communications Minister Helen Coonan has called on the country’s neighbours in the Asia Pacific to join forces to combat threats from spam e-mail and online fraudsters. Senator Coonan said that closer international co-operation was vital to dealing with threats to the security and privacy of people using the Internet. Full report in The Age * Australian police have charged a Melbourne man with copyright violations in relation to the MP3 WMA Land investigation. The man faces five counts of distributing an infringing copy of a work, and 14 counts of aiding and abetting the distribution of an infringing copy of a work.
