The European Court of Justice has handed down a ruling that will allow EU sports teams to field even more non-European players.

In its decision, the court found the Spanish football league was wrong to subject Russian players to restrictions on the number of non-EU players teams may field, reports the Financial Times. Lawyers and officials said the ruling would certainly have an impact on the 77 countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific that are subject to the EU\'s quota agreement, as well as North African states such as Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
