Energy-saving laws given new impetus

The need to improve energy efficiency has given urgency to a new law laying down what kind of energy appliances will be allowed in homes, offices and factories by the Department of Minerals and Energy.
According to Business Report, Director-General Sandile Nogxina told MPs yesterday the new legislation would mandate the use of healthy, safe, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly energy appliances. It would also create parastatal bodies that would promote energy efficiency, renewable energy planning and environmental protection. The current state of energy supply in SA had driven home the need for improving energy efficiency by reducing demand while increasing supply, Nogxina said. Full report in Business Report
