Domestic worker in toddler assault case walks free

Jolly Tumuhiirwe, the Malawian domestic worker who made headlines after footage of her assaulting a toddler went viral on social media, has been released from the Luzira Women’s Prison. New Vision reports that prison spokesperson Frank Baine said Tumuhiirwe, who had been sentenced to five years in prison, was released a year early for good behaviour. She was convicted of the torture of an 18-month-old baby. Chief Magistrate Lillian Buchan said she had committed an ‘unjustifiable and inexcusable’ crime. A hidden camera captured her trying to force-feed the child while slapping and kicking her.
