Further sentences were handed down by the Denpasar District Court in the case of the nine Bali drug mules this week.

The leader of the drug smugglers, Andrew Chan, and his sidekick, Myuran Sukumaran, have been sentenced to death by firing squad. Drug mules Michael Czugaj and Martin Stephens were sentenced to life in prison in line with penalties handed down on Monday against Renae Lawrence and Scott Rush, reports The Age. The Bali Nine trials end today (Wednesday) when the fate of three final defendants will be revealed. All nine were arrested on April 17 last year. Chan and Sukumaran are the first drug offenders to be condemned to die by courts in Bali. The trial\'s Chief Judge, Arief Supartman, said Chan had been proven guilty of ‘exporting heroin in an organised ring and possessing a prohibited class one narcotic’. Full report in The Age
