Death of Judge Simon King Ndlovu

Judge Simon King Ndlovu, who served on the KwaZulu-Natal High Court, as well as a judge of the Labour Appeal Court, died last week, according to a report in The Mercury. Labour Court Judge President Basheer Waglay noted Ndlovu passed his pupillage with honours and obtained the highest mark in the country. He studied at the University of Zululand and completed a Master’s degree magna cum laude. He also attended university in the US on a Fulbright scholarship. Waglay said Ndlovu joined the Department of Justice in 1972 and worked his way up through the ranks as an interpreter, clerk of the court, prosecutor, magistrate and senior magistrate. In 1995, he was appointed as a regional magistrate and became a judge in 2004 and a judge of the Labour Court of Appeal in 2010. Ndlovu is survived by his wife and daughter. A joint memorial service will be held at the KZN High Court (Durban) at 9am on 5 May.
