* Econet Wireless has won part of a legal battle to protect its 5% stake in Nigerian cellular network operator Vee Mobile, with a court ruling that Vee cannot make any changes in its shareholding structure. The Federal High Court of Nigeria has barred Vee Mobile from altering its ownership until a legal dispute with Econet is resolved through international arbitration. – Business Day * A teenager, Songezo Malusi (18), facing several charges of rape and housebreaking, has had his bail revoked in the New Brighton Magistrates’ Court after he contravened the conditions of his release. Malusi is co-accused with Zukile Shume (18) and Vusumzi Yekelo (24). – The Herald * A Mozambican court in the town of Xai-Xai has released Potchefstroom doctor Adriaan Vermooten (48) on R400 bail. Vermooten, who spent the weekend in jail, is facing manslaughter charges after he ran down and killed a 13-year-old boy on the EN1 highway in the Gaza province. He is to appear again in April. – Beeld * The Cape High Court is expected to pass sentence on Monday in the case of two men convicted of gang raping a then 22-year-old woman two years ago. In a plea explanation before the court, one of the accused, 21-year-old Arnold Williams, begged forgiveness from the victim and her family, saying he knew he deserved a life sentence. Two other men are being tried separately for the rape. – Cape Argus
