The DA has claimed its new immigration policy hoped to eradicate the stigma associated with foreign nationals, says a Cape Argus report. The DA’s Jacques Julius said the party proposed to tighten border patrol to alleviate illegal immigration. ‘We want a situation where immigrants in SA can live in harmony. To do that we must secure the borders so people have it in their minds that our borders are secure, so everyone in the country is here legally. We’re proposing an amnesty period for illegal foreign nationals in the country to deal with the issue of illegal people.’ Julius said the SANDF had only 15 of its 22 companies operating to protect the border from illegal immigrants, and the DA was proposing to have 22 units, which he said stretched for 4 800km. Julius added that people must be documented.
