CSA urged to tackle gender concerns

Cricket South Africa (CSA) last week addressed the Proteas' ongoing series against Afghanistan that has come under fire. The series is being hosted by Afghanistan in the UAE, because of security risks in Afghanistan. News24 reports that the SA Cricketers' Association (SACA) has objected to the Proteas playing against the only side in international cricket without a women's team. ‘A player's right to pursue sport cannot be limited because of his or her gender,’ the SACA statement said. ‘We urge CSA to use this series to highlight that these rights for Afghanistan's women's players must be protected and respected.’ CSA re-affirmed its commitment ‘to narrowing the gender gap in sports’ and said it has made considerable strides ‘in empowering and strengthening the women's cricket pathway’.
