* Cosatu is to hold a second national strike on August 29 to protest against unemployment and to push the government to weaken the rand, it said yesterday. – Business Report

* Prisons have released 17 356 sentenced offenders since the special remission of sentence for offenders started on June 13, the government announced yesterday. ‘Of these, 1000 were children and 8 707 were youths aged between 18 and 25 years.’ – Sunday Times * Lawyer Leonard Nkosi (33) has appeared in the Brakpan Magistrates’ Court on a charge of drunk driving and three counts of assault.
