Concern raised over poor quality of law graduates

The poor quality of law graduates is highlighted in the April edition of De Rebus, with editor Philip van der Merwe making the point that In addition to specific legal knowledge, there are two areas of skills deficit that practitioners mention most numeracy and literacy.
He added that the deficits may have origins at primary and secondary-school level. The Attorneys Fidelity Fund is to conduct a study of all the numeracy training programmes taught at SA Law Faculties, and the Law Societys Legal Education and Development department is involved in bridging courses to assist with skills training at post-graduate level, as well as engaging the Deans of Law Faculties to review the LLB degree curriculum.
