Only days after the appointment of a new Pope, Benedict XVI, the Catholic Church and the government in Spain are on a collision course over a

new Bill that will legalise homosexual marriage and allow gays to adopt children. The Vatican, reports The Telegraph, has advised Spanish Catholic civil servants to refuse to officiate at homosexual wedding ceremonies, even if it meant risking losing their jobs. Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, the Spanish Deputy Prime Minister, said state officials ‘must apply the laws that government proposes and parliament approves’. Full report in The Telegraph
