* The Cape High Court has closed the book on the Masterbond scandal after almost 14 years, ending the appointment of the investment scheme’s curators yesterday, subject to conditions. These include the completion of a final distribution of about R15m to about 9 500 investors, and the deregistration of the last five Masterbond companies. – Business Day

* A Hillbrow bottle store owner briefly appeared in the Magistrates’ Court yesterday after allegedly painting a man with enamel paint. Robbert Subramony is facing charges of assault, grievous bodily harm and public indecency. He was formally charged and later released on bail. He is expected to appear in court on March 31. – SABC News * The Co-operatives Bill and the Co-operatives Bank Bill would be finalised in June, Trade and Industry Minister Mandisi Mpahlwa said yesterday. The Bills, currently in draft form, are aimed at encouraging the creation of co-operatives in sectors other than agriculture. – Business Day * A California Superior Court judge ruled yesterday that the state\'s ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional. The ruling stemmed from litigation over San Francisco\'s decision last year to allow gay marriage. – SABC News
