Builder Theoniel Destination Smith (25) has been found guilty of murdering, raping and robbing 83-year-old retired Grahamstown principal Madge Esme Fergusson on February 6, 2003.

Grahamstown High Court Judge Clive Plasket rejected Smith‘s plea of not guilty. Plasket accepted evidence by the State that she could not have fallen back and hit a bench and that her multiple injuries had been the result of Smith‘s immense and sustained violent attack against her, says The Herald. Her injuries included bruises and abrasions on both sides of her head, inter-cranial bleeding, four broken ribs in front and three behind, a broken hyoid bone caused by throttling, pulmonary oedema and abrasions to her groin. He will be sentenced tomorrow. Full report in The Herald
