* Phishing attacks rose by a third in November 2004 and the bogus Web sites involved are proving increasingly difficult to take down, according to research released by the Anti-Phishing Working Group. The report found that in November 51 brands were attacked by phishers and over 1 500 phishing Web sites were discovered. The US remained the preferred Web hosting location. The SAPS alert comes after tsunami-related 419 scams were e-mailed to millions of computer users globally. The scams appeal to people to donate money to the sender, usually a \'victim\' of the disaster. Full report in The Star * US Internet service provider, Verizon Communications, has enraged many customers since it began to block e-mail originating from the UK and other parts of Europe. On December 22, the ISP began blocking ranges of IP addresses belonging to UK and European ISPs in an effort to stop spam coming from the region, according to customer service representative.
