ICT: More time to comment on IMT spectrum allocation roadmap

Stakeholders now have until 28 January to comment on a draft roadmap for international mobile telecommunications radio frequency spectrum allocation gazetted last November, reports Pam Saxby for Legalbrief Policy Watch.
As Legalbrief Today reported at the time, the roadmap envisaged identifies suitable bands for international mobile telecommunications deployment; and explores potential scenarios and timelines for migrating licensees out of or within these bands. This is noting government’s overarching policy imperatives of spectrum efficiency, the ‘universal availability of broadband services’, a ‘vibrant and competitive telecommunications industry’ and an environment that promotes and attracts investment. Building on radio frequency migration plan proposals released in August and informed by International Telecommunication Union and Southern African Development Community ‘perspectives’, the draft roadmap is underpinned by targets set in the 2016 White Paper on ICT.
